Project Description

Multi-year sole specification contract from 2016-2021 to paint 8 LNG marine carriers.  The client first completed a two year field trial of RUST GRIP to ensure painting can be completed at sea with a (riding crew) while the ship is in transit. Then laboratory tests were completed to ensure product performance. T existing paint systems were deteriorating from corrosion and abrasion before the scheduled drydocking and had to constantly be re applied.  The client was seeking a long term corrosion solution that could be applied over existing rust and firmly bonded paint.

Coating Solution

Stripe coats of RUST GRIP,

2 coats of RUST GRIP each coat @ 4 mils DFT ,

1 coat of ENAMO GRIP @ 4 mils DFT

Results

RUST GRIP’s ability to use humidity to cure allowed a riding crew to paint the super structure, gas house, fly passage and other areas while the ship is in transit from UAE to Japan saving tremendous amount of time and money in drydocking.  The RUST GRIP system encapsulates existing rust and firmly bonded paint better than previous coating systems.  Since the ship is carrying flammable gas, non-spark tools including needle gun and wet slurry blast is used when need to remove lose flaking or pack rust.  4,000 psi power wash with Chlor-rid is used to remove salt before applying RUST GRIP.
