Cold & Cool Storage Solutions: Protective Coatings for Temperature Control

If you work in the cold storage industry, you know how important it is to maintain a consistent and safe temperature for your goods. Any variation in temperature can result in spoilage, which can lead to significant losses for your business. That's why it's essential to use protective coatings that can help maintain temperature and reduce fuel consumption. In this article, we'll explore some of the benefits of using protective coatings for cold and cool storage solutions.

Protective coatings are a cost-effective solution that can help you maintain the temperature in your cold storage facility. These coatings work by reflecting heat and blocking solar radiation, which can help keep the interior of your facility cool. In addition to temperature control, protective coatings can also help reduce fuel consumption, and maintenance costs and improve overall efficiency.

Protect Reefers - 30% Fuel Reduction

Refrigerated trucks, also known as reefers, are a crucial part of the cold storage industry. These trucks are responsible for transporting perishable goods across the country, making it possible for us to enjoy fresh produce year-round. However, reefers are notorious for their high fuel consumption. That's where protective coatings come in.

By applying a protective coating to your reefer, you can reduce fuel consumption by up to 30%.(Results may vary based on location) This reduction is due to the coatings ability to block solar radiation, which keeps the interior of the truck cooler. With a cooler interior, the refrigeration system doesn't have to work as hard to maintain the desired temperature, resulting in less fuel consumption.

Super Therm® solar heat block coating saves fuel for food-hauling fleet

Super Therm® Solar Heat Block CoatingSaves Fuel for Food-Hauling Fleet

Super Therm® is a protective coating that has been specifically designed for use in the cold storage industry. This coating has been tested extensively and has been shown to provide significant benefits to food-hauling fleets.

Here are some of the benefits of using Super Therm®:

    ● Super Therm® cool-down time was cut by 1.75 hours or 44%
    ● 20% less fuel on the outbound "hot" haul
    ● 29% less fuel on the return "cold" leg
    ● Long-term reduction at 200 to 250 trips a year, the benefits could total $2,500 times by20 years $50,000.

By using Super Therm®, food-hauling fleets can save a significant amount of money on fuel costs. The reduction in fuel consumption also has a positive impact on the environment, making it a win-win situation for everyone.

Reduction in maintenance and labor costs

In addition to fuel savings, Super Therm® coating can also help reduce maintenance and labor costs. By reducing the cooling load on the refrigeration unit, the unit runs more efficiently and experiences less wear and tear, resulting in fewer breakdowns and lower maintenance costs. In addition, because the unit does not have to work as hard to maintain the desired temperature, there is less strain on the engine, which can lead to lower labor costs and a longer lifespan for the refrigeration unit.

Reduction of fuel and produce in transportation

The benefits of Super Therm® coating are not limited to fuel savings and reduced maintenance costs. By reducing the cooling load on the refrigeration unit, the coating also helps prevent the spoilage of perishable goods during transport. This is particularly important for industries that rely on the transportation of fresh or frozen foods, as spoilage can lead to significant losses and waste.

    Letters of Recommendation

"After meeting your company at the Off Shore Arabia Conference in April 2010, we decided to use Rust Grip on the deck of our ABS Class vessel Mubarak Challenger. It has now been over a year, and there are still no signs of corrosion development as originally promised by your company."

"We also coated the roof of the engine room with Super Therm to reduce heat and sound transfer to the upper living quarters. Additionally we used 3mm of Hot Surface Coating to reduce the surface temperature of the hot pipes running throughout the engine room. Both Super Therm and Hot Surface Coating have done exactly what you promised, and continue to perform under extreme marine environments."

"We look forward to using the same products on other vessels in the near future."

"Have carried out the surface temperature measurement as per given instruction. Temp. Instrument used - IR thermometer (as the most handy)"

Three decks coated with different paint have been measured at 13.00hrs on surfaces exposed to direct sunlight and the readings are as follow:

According to your request please find the following:
    Outside temp 93.2°F

    1. Red standard paint (ship’s port wing) – 133.52°F
    2. Monkey island standard white paint – 112.28°F/104.54°F underneath surface from bridge compartment
    3. Super Therm paint (above C/E cabin) – 107.6°F/82.94°F underneath surface from C/E cabin

    Our Observations:
Although only D-deck and C-deck tops have been coated with SuperTherm there is a significant temp. difference in the cabins, which are fully exposed to sunlight. It would be better effect of course if such product could be used on accommodation bulkheads too. In my personal opinion it was a right decision to apply such H-Tech coat.

"Further to our discussion, this letter will confirm the occurrences in Kirkland, Quebec, at our existing twin sheet ice arena. In October of 1998 we applied 7 dry mils of Super Therm ceramic insulation coating to the exterior of our stress skin metal building. Everyone in Kirkland was skeptical that the product would insulate the building due to the harsh climate. After two years of operations I was convinced to insulate the building with standard insulation to see if the hydro and gas costs would be reduced. The building has now been in operation for a further two years and I can tell you that the hydro and gas bill did not change at all. The application of $30,000 of additional insulation did nothing. This of course re-affirmed my faith in your product and I have decided to use it on our Surrey expansion and all other future ice arena development.

I extend my personal thanks and appreciation for your support of the Air Force Renewable Energy Symposium in Tucson on June 28 and 29th. The Air Force is committed to be a leader in developing and using renewable energy to support our mission and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. We can only meet this objective with the involvement and support of a wide range of government, regulatory and renewable industry leadership. Your presentation on Innovative Use of Ceramic Coatings to Alter the Approach to Building Heat Gain was very informative and valuable to our efforts."
